Development
James J. Cordano Co. is a privately held real estate company focused primarily on the development and acquisition of retail properties in the western region of the United States. Founded in 1922, the firm’s activities have evolved along with the ever changing demand of retailers and ultimately their customers. Through its relationships with the major chain stores of the time, the firm began brokering and ultimately assembling and building for its clients such as JC Penney, Sears, W.T. Grant, Woolworth, and Broadway Hale in the various cities on the West Coast.

After World War II, these relationships took the firm to the newly constructed suburbs where in 1952 it developed one of the West Coast’s first suburban regional shopping centers, County Club Centre in Sacramento, California. In 1967 the firm built Sacramento’s first enclosed regional mall (Florin Mall) followed shortly thereafter by its second (Sunrise Mall). The firm continued throughout the years with the development of ten more regional enclosed malls and numerous other community and strip centers throughout the West Coast and Pacific Northwest.

The firm’s focus today is still the development of quality retail projects where they are needed and the acquisition of properties where it can add value through leasing, asset management and redevelopment. This has included the firm going back to its “downtown roots” with the development of numerous infill retail projects.
